Kayaking the Morúa Estuary Ecosystem — Nana Beltran

Day 3 of Puerto Peñasco — We set off to go kayaking in the Morúa Estuary of Puerto Peñasco. The estuary hosts over 140 species of endemic and migratory birds that either nest, live, migrate to or for the winter, or stop over in route to their destinations.

Not only that, the estuary is home to salt grass marshes that go on for miles. The estuary’s sediments can store carbon faster than sediments in forests. If undisturbed, estuaries can store carbon below the ground for thousands of years.

Estuaries are a powerful defense against climate change and should be protected and cared for at all costs :)
